Fraser Stone is one of the top drummers / percussionists in his field today. Born in Inverness and raised in Grantown-on-Spey, a small town situated in the central highlands of Scotland, he was first introduced to drums at the early age of six.

Throughout his decade long career Fraser has performed all over the world and featured on many albums, working in a vast array of genres and Theatre.

As well as being a performer Fraser is also a composer and in 2005 he was commissioned to co write a piece a piece of music along with percussionist Paul Jennings to be performed at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow. After the great success of this show they were asked to return to the Festival the following year.

Growing up throughout his teen years with a group of friends that played traditional music, Fraser adapted his skills onto his own unique African percussion set-up. For the past eight years this has become an integral part of ‘legendary folk super group’ the Old Blind Dogs. Recently to celebrate their charity work in Senegal the band double billed with African Superstar Youssou N’Dour, a sold out concert for Celtic Connections 2009.

This Festival also saw Fraser perform with the testosterone fuelled, high octane band the Treacherous Orchestra, a premier league of musicians headlining some of the U.K’s biggest festivals this year.

Fraser’s passion for African instruments inspired him to develop ‘Trade Afro’ – a brand which he donated to a Senegalese community to help promote a recognised quality in their fantastic instruments. As well as helping to fund a professional workshop that creates long term steady employment Fraser and the Old Blind Dogs are now helping to set up a music school in the area and that will bring much needed tourism and trade.

When Fraser isn’t touring you can find him in schools around Scotland holding workshops as he is a respected teacher of percussion.
