Rory Campbell Bows Out of Old Blind Dogs

Piper/whistle player and singer Rory Campbell has decided to step down from Old Blind Dogs after nearly ten years recording and on the road. oldblinddogs.co.uk finds out why...

After nearly ten years of recording and touring with Old Blind Dogs Rory's life is taking him in new directions. He told obd.co.uk, "It is sad for me to say but due to various factors in my life it’s time for me to bow out of OBD. I am currently about half way through studying for a masters degree in music therapy, something that I am fascinated by and passionate about. Alongside the fact that I'm holding down a 'real' job, not to mention being with my family, this has obviously meant that my time is considerably restricted."

Having been with the band for close on ten years, it wasn’t easy for Rory to tell the guys that his time was up, however, his life was starting to become too much of a juggling act and, in his own words, "...I’m not a good juggler!" Taking Rory's place in Old Blind Dogs will be Ali Hutton, a brilliant piper/whistle player/guitarist. He has already toured with the band. Rory commented, "His dynamic playing will add a lot to the band, as I’ve no doubt some of you have already heard."

When asked about his time with Old Blind Dogs Rory said, "I’ve been fortunate enough to be with the band through all kinds of adventures all over the world. I’ve had the joy of making great music, seen some fascinating places and met loads of interesting people, some of whom have become life long friends. There’s no doubt that I’ll wonder how the guys are doing when they’re out on the road but I might be too busy playing football with my boys. Nonetheless, I will try and catch up with the guys for beer and stories."

He added, "I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone and anyone who has helped to make my time with OBD fruitful and fun. Maybe see you again sometime.
