Donald Hay is a drummer/percussionist with an exceptional ability to play with power, empathy, delicacy and drama. Coming from the fiddle led rock’n’roll explosion Mystery Juice, over the last thirty years he has become one of the most highly sought after percussionists on the Scottish and English folk scenes. As well as Old Blind Dogs, he is currently performing with The Poozies, Duncan Chisholm, Himmerland (Denmark), The Ciaran Ryan Band and harpist Mary Macmaster.
He’s appeared on recordings by Sting, Eliza Carthy ( including her Mercury Award nominated ‘Anglicana’ ), Kate Rusby, Martin Carthy, Kathryn Tickell, Gordon Duncan, The Battlefield Band and The Nuala Kennedy Band as well as being part of The Transatlantic Sessions TV show performing with Joan Osbourne, Donal Lunny, Julie Fowlis, Jerry Douglas and Aly Bain.

Donald recently helped produce a show with Mary Macmaster, commissioned by Edinburgh Tradfest and called “For The Love Of Trees”.
After a fantastic debut at the festival in 2025 they are currently looking to develop and record that project in 2026/27 while they continue to promote the impact trees have on humanity and the earth.
He is also currently recording with The Poozies for a release later in 2026.
